Tell us a bit about the work you do with SKILLED

I drive trains between Mount Isa and Hughenden.

The trains range from passenger (Inlander/Westlander) to 4,500 and 1km long mineral trains.

On the mineral trains we carry zinc concentrate, lead concentrate, acid, cement and fertilizer just to name a few.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I enjoy working to a scheduled roster.

I enjoy working autonomously.

I enjoy working in a team environment.

I enjoy knowing what my job role and expectations are.

Why did you decide to join SKILLED?

I had retired from working as a driver in charge.

A friend of mine was working for SKILLED.

I wanted to return to the workforce in a driver capacity only.

This friend had highly recommended SKILLED as a great employer and advised that I should apply for work.

What’s the best thing about working with SKILLED?

Being nominated for ‘Employee of the Year’.

I was flown to Melbourne after winning the State level.

I got to meet a lot of SKILLED staff and management.

What skills and experience have you gained while working for SKILLED?

Due to my long working history, I have not learned a lot of new skills.

I hope that I have given knowledge and skills to new/ trainee employees

What advice would you give someone looking for a career with SKILLED?

Make sure that you have all required qualifications.

Make sure you are physically fit for your job role.

Make sure you have good work ethics.

Make sure you wear your SKILLED uniform with pride (ensuring it is washed and ironed).

Make a good example for other SKILLED employees.

Ensure that you always work safely.
