Benim - Apprentice Engineer – Mechanical Trade
Tell us a bit about the work you do with SKILLED
I’m an apprentice working in Dandenong Monday to Thursday. On Fridays I work for another client in Cheltenham to gain more experience. I do a variety of work - fitting & turning, fabrication, welding, trouble shooting, hydraulics and pneumatics.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Mostly I enjoy making things especially when they involve fabrication. I also like problem solving.
Why did you decide to join SKILLED?
SKILLED appealed to me because it’s a big company, known Australia wide and I felt good about the way they do apprenticeships. SKILLED has a very good support group that helps you throughout your apprenticeship.
What’s the best thing about working with SKILLED?
The very best thing about SKILLED is their attention to safety. They are very safety conscious, no shortcuts are taken. You do things properly, the safest way.
What skills and experience have you gained while working for SKILLED?
I recently completed my TAFE course in Certificate III Engineering – Mechanical Trade. I am applying what I’ve learned at TAFE and what I’ve learned on the job so far in both workshops so I’m gaining experience in the field I enjoy.
What advice would you give someone looking for a career with SKILLED?
I’d tell anyone interested in SKILLED to go for it because they’d have nothing to lose. Basically you have someone looking out for you, looking over your shoulder to make sure you are doing the right thing, making sure you do it right and in a safe manner.
